This page describes what happens to information when you read canadaetaguide.com. The short version: you do not need to give us anything to use the site, and we do not ask for it.
What we do not collect
There are no accounts, sign-up forms, comment boxes or contact forms on this website. The only way to reach us is by email at info@canadaetaguide.com; we use what you write only to reply. We do not take payments, and we never ask for passport numbers, application numbers, dates of birth or any other personal details. Please do not send such details to us in any way.
What is processed automatically
Like every website, canadaetaguide.com is delivered through a hosting and content-delivery provider. To serve pages and protect the site from abuse, that provider and its security tools handle routine technical data: your IP address, browser and device type, the page requested, the referring page and the time of the request. We do not use this data to identify individual readers.
Analytics
The site uses Google Analytics (a Google Analytics 4 property) to see which guides are read, how readers arrive and which links are clicked, so we can decide what to fix or write next. The tag loads on every page and may set cookies in your browser (named _ga and _ga_ followed by an identifier). Google receives the page address, your browser details and an IP address, and processes them under its own privacy policy. The site does not show a cookie banner at present, and it does not run advertising pixels or other third-party trackers.
You can block these cookies in your browser settings, use a tracking-protection extension, or install Google’s opt-out add-on. The site owner’s own visits are excluded in a similar way: opening any page once with ?noga=1 at the end of the address stores a small marker in that browser that switches the analytics tag off, and ?noga=0 turns it back on. The marker lives in your browser storage, and clearing the site data removes it.
Links to other websites
Guides link to Government of Canada pages and, from time to time, to an independent paid service for people who prefer to apply through a private company. Links to that service carry a campaign tag in the address so we can count visits, and they are marked as sponsored. Once you leave this site, the other site’s privacy policy applies, and we have no control over what it collects.
Images
Photos and diagrams in the guides are served from our own image address (images.canadaetaguide.com). It is used only to deliver files, and no analytics are attached to it.
Children
The site is written for adult travellers and for parents planning trips. We do not knowingly collect information about children.
Your choices
Because we hold no personal data about readers, there is nothing to access or delete on our side. Browser settings let you limit or clear cookies and local storage at any time. For anything held by Google or by a site we link to, please use the controls offered by that company.
Changes
If the site starts using new tools, this page will be updated before they go live. The date below shows the current version.
